Of grebes and owls

This young grebe spent just a short time with us. It was returned to the lake it was found at and released. It spent a couple days getting fed and regaining its waterproofing.
This short eared owl sent in from Bethel by ADF&G will be staying a while. It has a broken leg just above what would be its knee.

Hello. I am from the UK and have found a baby Grebe. What's the best way to care for it to then release it back to our local pond? Been feeding it wet cat food which it is guzzling down (recommended to me by the rspb, it is fish based cat food). Any advise would be gratefully appreciated.

Tasmin, Sorry I'm just now getting back to you. For some reason your post was awaiting moderation which I don't have selected. We feed our baby grebes fish that's been ground up until they're able to take small fish. They are very tough to keep alive during this time. I wish you the best of luck.
