Want to know more about the owls found in Alaska? Well todays Anchorage Daily News has a great article in the Outdoors section about "Predators of the night". The article includes Bird TLC's own Chris Maack, Steve & Debbie Ross and Kristen Guinn and the owls they caretake and present. If your not in Alaska this time of year, the article tells you what you are missing at least when it comes to owls. Just remember if your not here, your missing a lot more.
Melissa DeVaughn does a fantastic job with "Predators of the night" and follows it up with a listing and descriptions of the owls in Owls of Alaska.
If you are in the Anchorage area, you can catch some more of Bird TLC's Education Birds at the 2006 Great Alaskan Sportman's Show.

ahh, photos after my own heart. I'll get up there someday, somehow. Alaska has so much to share and so does TLC.
I've only seen an owl once in my life. Interestingly, it was not out in the country, on any of our hikes or long walks. One evening I was sitting in my sister's hot-tub in densely populated suburban southern California. We heard a squealing, squeaking, and whooshing whooshing. We could not figure out what was going on, when suddenly a huge owl flew directly over the hot-tub and in its talons was a squeaking critter, and the whoosh, whoosh was the sound of the owl's wings. We were absolutely stunned.
CD - I'm waiting for you.
RD - I live in downtown Anchorage and early this winter my neighbor lost her pet rabbit to a Great Horned Own.
Britt - every night having those glowing eyes looking back at you.
